right next door
i bought a fluval edge the other day, and turned it into a saltwater nano tank. the lights that come with the setup are small and yellowish halogens, not enough to run a saltwater tank. so i made a replacement canopy to house a coralife 36 watt PC and still keep the overall look. still cycling the tank, so there is no livestock. also playing with the temp of the water, i think the heater i have in there is too strong for the tank.

here are the before pics

I just picked one of these up.......

Do you have any details on how you set this up?? Did you supplement the HOB that came with the tank, or did you go with something else entirely??

I'm interested in any details you can provide. We picked ours up about 2 months ago and planted it and house some neons and a few ghost shrimp. I have been pondering the idea of developing it further and obviously, as you have figured, the lighting leaves a lot to be desired....not to mention filtration.

The tank looks great!

i appreciate all the interest. as for the filter, i just changed the carbon for purigen. weekly water changes should make it so i dont need a skimmer. as for temperature, im replacing the topfin for mini heater. its the flat 15w style made for 5-10 gallon tanks. im thinking of shoving it into the back of the filter to keep it out of the tank. pics later tonight. im in class right now typing on my cell phone....lol

decided to put the heater in the tank.... lets hope it keeps the water above 72 tonight. its at 77 with just the light, and the heater comes on via timer when the light goes out. wish me luck.

Why time the heater? If it's a thermostat it will only come on once at the temperature you set it on.

BTW, great DIY skills but those Fluval edges are not worth the money. Too small to be able to rovide stabel water parameters, no gas exchange and they look a pain in the rear to keep clean

wouldnt be much of a hobby if everything worked perfectly.

i put the heater on a timer b/c i only need it at night to compensate for the heat from the light. it worked well my water temp went to 80 so i will shorten the time of the heater during the night, then increase the time when it gets much colder.

got mine for $110 brand new, thats worth it to me (THANKS MAX)
