I had to move due to my job offering me a promotion several hundred miles away from where I was located. I sold off all my tanks because I was having to downsize from a 3 bedroom house to a 1 bedroom apartment. I knew there would be no room for them and they had to go.

Since I've moved here I've wanted to have an aquarium or two (or 4) setup. My choices were either (4) 20-gallon long setups trying to breed various small fish, or a Fluval Edge that looks really freaking sweet. The 20-gallon longs don't seem like much of a challenge so I think I'm going to go with the Fluval Edge.

The plan is to start a colony of some sort of shrimp...possibly crystal red shrimp. I want it to look natural. I'm thinking right now I'm going to have black sand and some java moss and marimo balls. I'm looking for low maintenance plants...Something that will grow easily without CO2 and moderate lighting. Any ideas?

Also, I was going to see if I needed to install some sort of airstone for the shrimp.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

I have a Fluval Edge with RCS. You don't really need an airstone, but it wouldn't hurt. Anubias are always a good choice for low maintenance tanks.

CRS do better in a lower pH, since you are setting up a tank so small, you could look into a shrimp specific substrate. I see them on aquabid sometimes. As of plants, an anubias on driftwood, and any kind of the taiwan moss would look pretty cool. I thought marino balls got large, i don't know, never had one.
