You will replace the sponge or original cartridge with the Clear and Clean if it was made to fit the Fluval u4 filter.

Waste of money IMO,swap it out for course foam/filter floss(as a water polisher).

It just says on the box iys for near unough all the u series but its just like a small square so can't think of it to go anywhere apart from the part with the bio max stones ?

I have no experience with that filter but try placing it on the bottom of the bio max.
