I have two Fluval FX-5 and one of them has the air bubbling sound in the filter. Like there is air getting in the filter. I replaced the hoses so its not a air leak int he hoses. The rubber O ring on the lid is fine as well. When I unplug the filter and close the in and out lines there is a sound coming from the filter. the sound is air bubbles. But the hoses are shut off and nothing is opened. So were is the air leak??

no i dont. i ment to put that in my thread that i didnt. also even when i shut the valves off on the hoses it still sounds like there is air getting in or out when its not even on.

If you can hear air entering/escaping while the valves are shut then this points to the following:-

- Input/output nozzles on lid

- O-ring seal on lid

- Purge valve

With your aqua-stop valves closed (Assuming they are in 100% working order) apart from the three places mentioned above there is no other way air can enter the system.

mine does this too, But It clears it self up when it purges and then I find it in the same condition every night and I don't have any leaks. It really don't bother me too much but the tank is in the basement, if you have it in your living space then I'm sure it could be annoying. Got to be the pump sucking air in. Or it keeps collecting oxygen until it gets in this state. Put the power on an outlet with a wall switch so you can give a quick flick off and on so that it does the purge after the first few minutes of running.

the fx5 should purge auto not long after it first comes on and then again every 24 hours.

if it's coming from the top it has to be one of the o-rings in the inlet or outlet pipe where it connects to the lid, seeing how you already checked the lid o-ring and new hoses, if the sound is coming from the bottom it's gotta be around the motor or drain valve. thats really all it can be, unless you have a crack somewhere.
