I have a new(used) 120g oceanic. The tank was originally FOWLR tank stocked with: approx 60lbs of LR, approx 0.5" of live sand , a pair of lg yellow tangs, Lg. Tomato Clown, Large puffer(now sold), Blue Hippo Tang, Flame Angel and a little nemo. Equip includes- Fluval FX5, large protein skimmer, two maxi-jet 900 for circulation, MH lighting etc... Now to my question.... I am going to keep this a mostly fish tank but I am transferring my old tank to the new one inc approx 50lb LR and several mushrooms and soft corals. On the reef forums they accost me for saying I am going to use a FLUVAL and insist it will cause a nitrate EXPLOSION and all my corals will DIE horribly blah blah blah. What is the real deal.... so far my nitrates are 0 and I haven't even touched the fluval to clean it yet about 3.5 weeks now. Will all the added stock cause this.. Should I clean the filter "Every Day" now... plug it full of carbon and ceramic rings till it pops??? Whadda ya'll think.
Sincerely,
An ACCOSTED man!
