Not sure if anyones experienced this, but when I boxed up my Eheim 2028 and setup the FX5 on my ray tank, I just transfered all biomedia.
The grates of the fluval media baskets are alot larger, comared to the eheim. I hate using media bags, because I've had problems with them killing my flow rate, so I just packed the bottom tray with coarse pads... problem solved. Right??? Definately not!!!!
I woke up this morning and checked on the tank, noticing that there was almost zero flow from the FX5. Of course, I immediately shut it off and tore it apart only to find that many of the small pieces of media had jammed inside the impeller. I cleaned it all out, replaced the foam, and put the biomedia in bags.
I hooked it back up and luckily the sucker is still turning over water like crazy.
Just a warning. Make sure to use bags if theres any chance of media falling threw the grates of the backets.
