i just got the FX 5 and im worried about it sucking up the fine sand in my tank. will it?

does anybody have the FX 5 and have sand in their tank. also can u cut the solid plastic tube of the intake. im NOT talking about the millions feet of extra flexible tubing they give u.

thanks

You can cut the plastic tube to the length you like. I have sand in my tank, but not the find grade type of sand.

I use sand with mine but raise it about 5 inches. I use mine totally for Biological and use AC 110s for mechanical.
You could put a filter sock over it, or a sponge on the intake.

Yes, you can cut the intake tube so that it is only a few inches into your tank. Spare tubes are available from retailers in case you screw up. I would recomend at least 5 inches to be safe because of their suction power they can suck from as much as about 3 inches above the actual termination end of the tube. This should minimize sand intake, but if you want to avoid it better, I would use a larger grain size of sand or use a fine sponge prefilter on the intake. Rays do like to frolic.
