I purchased this Fluval Fx5 brand new online and it has been set up for about a total of 4 days... Around day 2 it started making this noise so I opened up the filter, set it up again, and the noise re appeared today on the 4th day. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Sigh......

I am using no sand or any type of gravel, my tank bottom is naked. The Fx5 is currently set up on my 100g turtle tank.

Is the intake and output nozzle completely submerged in water?
Did you fill the canister with water completely before you plugged it in?
Have you checked the impeller?

Sound like there's air trapped

Trapped air it sounds like. Unplug the filer and see if it purges. Also, are you using any polishing pads or media in the center trays? These can trap bubbles beneath them and won't allow the canister to fully purge.

Another method I've found that can help purge air is twisting off the output valve slowly so water is drawn into the canister for a minute, twisting it back to the on position, and then unplugging it and plugging it back in. Also, shaking the cansiter seems to help. Repeat if necessary.

I have removed the polishing pad, removed my air stone, and just re-did the whole installation process all over again. The noise is gone for now... I will keep it touch. Hope the noise doesn't return on the 2nd day..... again.
