Fluval FX5 media placement

I have seen so many conflicting ways of configuring media for the FX5...What is the consensus?
Does the water flow from top to bottom or bottom to top?
All canisters that i know of siphon in water then water flows to bottom and impeller sucks water at the top into the outake in ur tank.
Thats why mech filtration 1st-chem (if u need it 2nd)-bio 3rd
I just set up a 250 gallon with 2 Fx5s and the manuals state that the bottom basket receives the purest water, and that PRE filters should be placed in the top media basket with biomax being in mid or bottom. This is straight from fx5 manual
Hmm must run different then an xp4. I thought it was the same.
Guess not. Same concept just backwards lol
