What do you guys use? I was reading thru some of the posts in the archive, but ya get like 425098306234590 results :nilly: so I thought I would ask in my very own little post :D.

I read about guys not using the fine pads because they clog up pretty fast and some others use pot scrubbers and bio balls.

So what's everyone using these days?

I use bio rings to fill the inner part of the trays and just the foam filters for the outside part of the trays. A lot of people use scrubbies instead of the bio rings.

Hope this helps. :naughty:

I use bio-max in all trays and let the foam on the outer take care of any mechanical needs, but you're going to get a whole heap of different answers and they'll all be right too :irked:

You've got to find what's right for you and your set up

i use the filter foam on the outsides, pre-filter in the top, then the rest bio-max. while bio-max is kind of expensive, it seems to be the best bio media from what ive read. could be wrong however........

as you can see in my sigi, my 250 is stocked rather well, and the fx5 is the only filter i have running on it right now:eek:. believe it or not, my levels are all good with only a 40-50% WC every week.

I have 1 tray fluval pre filter rings and the rest nylon pot scrubbers for quite a while now works like a charm

Not that it will matter much but you may want to move the pre filter to the bottom because the water enters the filter at the bottom

I've got the foam pads it comes with, eheim ehfisubstrat, seachem matrix (looks about same as eheim and a little cheaper), some bio max rings & a polishing pad. But also have a fluval 404 on the tank with filter floss, carbon, matrix, and bio rings. Polishing pad is about the same use as the filter floss, I've rinsed the pad a few times and reused it. Seems really good at trapping little stuff, don't seem to be too clogged between maintenance.

does the bottom need pre filter or the top...the owner manual says the top but ive seen a few threads that says it goes through the bottom first.........i have my prefilter on top so someone please let me know for surrrrre.
