what have you guys found works best? oem or something different?

Don't mean to be a smart a**, but depends on what your bio & mech filtration needs are. I run 1 fx5 that has nothing but the foam blocks round the outsides & scrubbies in all the inner trays. I run a 2nd fx5 also w/ foam blocks on the outside & bit more filter floss in the inner trays, except the top tray, more scrubbies, some bio rings, ect. That's not all my filtration though, so it depends on what your tanks needs are. One thing almost for sure, try & stay away from the super fine filter pads/polish pads, they can clog up w/in days or even less, even the blue fx5 pads can clog pretty quickly. Hope that helps. :) :) :)

IMO the mechanical stage of the FX5 is fine without any extra help so I just fill the baskets with low clogging bio-media. (ceramic rings...a LOT of them)

Like BIG...This is never the only filtration I run. I like a multi filter approch.
I use modifyed E400's for my main bio-filtration....cannisters for pressurised mechanical filtration and hydro5 sponge filters for safety.

IM PUTTING THIS ON A 150G W/ 2 OSCARS, 1 JAG, AND A PLECO. ALSO THERE WILL BE A EMPEROR 400 ON IT AS WELL. THANKS FOR HELP GUYS ;)
