Fluval FX5 or wet/dry filter for 250gal freshwater tank

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has a recommendation of what type of filtration I should use on my 250gal freshwater tank. I currently own a FX5 but should I run 2 FX5 or a combination of a FX5 and a wet/dry filtration.

I currently have a 260 g predrilled tank, sump and fx5 on it and can put anything you want into it and works great, sump has heater so nothing for large fish to break

If you can only pick one, go with the sump because it will give you much more bio media room and you'll have a higher turnover rate than an FX5. But like other people said, ideally you should have an FX5 and a sump. A combo of these 2 is better because the FX5 will catch more of the waste at the bottom, but the sump gives you more bio.

If you're not sure how to build a sump, you should just go buy one at the LFS. I would buy an acrylic one because if something happens to the glass or seams in the sump, it's going to be a big pain.

Buy a 55.
Put a return pump and heater in the bottom.
Fill it with bio balls.

Plum the supply and return lines and you are pretty much done. Anything more complex than this is just for convenience.
