I just purchased an Fx5. Its a week old. Since day 1, after setup ( I followed the instructions) everything is fine except the humming nose made by the motor. I find that the motor is vibrating the whole filter. I did a lot of research and check all the forums but I cannot find a solution. I realize that this filter is not going to be dead silent but I can hear this humming in an in closed aquarium self 20 feet way. Did anyone else have the same issue? if you did then then whats that solution ? or maybe this is normal ? all info welcome.

ps. ---there are no fine pads inside the media baskets
---2 botton baskets contain Matrix and top basket contains G Nodes (all media ( 0.5" from top of basket)
---- there are no loops in hosing

No I haven't. Its only been running for a week. Will try doing that, see if it helps...

Yeah, just take it out and reseat it as well. Once removed, also check for any type of unusual wear if it's been like that for a week...

As far as the pads. Get some blue ones for the top tray. Put a White polypad on the second tray with Carbon bags underneither it in that same tray and then Bio on the bottom tray with a Polishing pad underneith the BioMedia. This will yield some crystal clear water!

Place a towel under the filter. It works. Its not going to be dead silent so you will hear it a little.

I had pads in mine but got tired of having to clean them atleast once a week. If you do use them and your filter stars shootiing out bubbles you know its time to clean the pads.

I cleaned out the filter opened the impeller. I found a small pebble in there that was causing all the noise and vibration. Problem Solved. Thanks for all the replies.

Ps. I Love this filter. Water is crystal clear since I installed it and no more noise.

Cool. Thats part of the reason I love fx5s. Everyone can be there own fluval mechanic! Almost idiotproof! And that has helped me many times.
