My 240 is 6 ft from the floor to the top of the tank, will FX 5 pump support this height ? how much head loss will I have by having this height ?

page 9/30 on the manual states that the distance between the top of the filter and the water level should not exceed 150cm or 4.9ft

hope that helps

it doesn't matter; as long as it is below the water level.

if you are concerned, you can give it a boost with something like a step.

1) the siphon pressure lifts the water to the top of the tank....its a balance...........head loss it normally calculated from the surface of the water up to the outlet height..........so its not a head loss issue

2) if it seems it should be on a block......

the manual does say "The filter lid must be at least 7.8 in. (20cm) below your
aquarium’s water level but never more than 4.9 ft. "

this is probably because the pressure increases in the cannister the farther it is below the top of the water. might exceed its design pressure ( leaks )

I suspect the differance in elevation sugested has more to do with the length of the suplied hoses. As john points out the siphon pressure offsets the head pressure. The real limiting factor as I see it is the friction losses in the hoses. This can be overcome to a degree by using larger diameter hoses. A 3/4" hose will allow twice as much flow with the same friction loss as a 1/2" hose for example.
