I'm planning on replacing my aqua clear 110 filter on my 75 gallon tank due to my water always being super cloudy from my driftwood. My set up is freshwater.
I am considering a fluval G6 or fluval fx5.
I know fx5 may be overkill but all I care about is a crystal clear tank.
Which filter has the capability to filter my water finer for better clarity ?

Input would be greatly appriciated.

I wouldnt worry with the G6 its a total waste of money.
I would rather go the fx5 or one of the new Eheim Series filters like the Pro 3e 2076

But thats just my 2c

fx5 all the way man, cant have over filtration unless you have like discus and have to worry about current being too strong.

I got 2x fx5s, 55 gallon sump (~1800 gph flow rate), and just ordered a uv sterilizer to keep my 240 pristine. The water has always been clear, but my fish are also relatively small still.

G6 if it is some crazy display, for all practicality get the fx5 for pure size and power

The CFS500 which is a smaller version of the FX5 has about 1/2 the power of an FX5 at 1/4 the price new. I have both filters and for the price/performance ratio the CFS500 is a better value on tanks below 100 gallons. With just a few media modifications only the FX5 out performs the CFS500. Initially when introduced the filter had lid issues due to the plastic used, the new lid design has eliminated past problems Here are links to the canister and simple mods and the canister vendor who stands by the product.

I would never buy an eheim filter.
Why not?

Personally I think the g6 is a total pos that requires very specific cartridges. Not very flexible, not very strong flow, but very expensive. Fx5 all the way between the 2.

That being said, I would buy an eheim any day over a fluval.

The G6 & G3 was designed to try and satisfy the commercial power of a circumference filter design while trying to hold the customer hostage to propitiatory size filter and media (to small),making it too expensive to buy and operate. Basically what you have is a couple of Magnum 250 carts inside a glorified display case with monitors and LED electronics only a robot could love. If they had made the product more simple and allowed the use of commercial or whole-house 3X12" water filters which come in all media types for a few dollars so that both the unit and replacement filters were larger, last longer, more efficient and less expensive, the G6 could have sold for as little as $200 and been a smashing success. Its a classic example of what over profit marketing design can do to what probably started out as someones great idea. However if you want to show off to your aquaria neighbor and be the envy of a few newbies then the G6/G3 is your filter.
