So I just unplugged my fluval fx5 for a media change and when I was done, it wouldn't restart. I get nothing when I plug it in. What could cause this? It's less than a year old so I don't think it just broke??a

After a power loss AND every 24 hours, the filter stops for approx. 2 minutes to purge the air. This could be what is happening. Either that, or the electrical outlet is not functioning. Check it out.
Do you have the manual/instructions available to troubleshoot this problem?
Does it make any sound at all?
Are the tap valves open to allow water in the filter?
Did you add the 2 gallons of water to the filter after replacing the media and before plugging it in?

We figured it out 
The fluval manual has NO troubleshooting section so wasn't much help. Turns out we needed to clean the impeller and after that it worked. Whew....

I've had a similiar problem..My impeller actually snapped in half.. I found out that this really hinders the operation of the canister--LMAO!!!!
