Hi guys looking for some advice on what filter media to use on my fx5 that's going to be running on my Oscar tank.
Thanks

Scrubbies. At dollar tree you can get 6 for $1 so you could fill it to the brim for the price of a cheeseburger.

On my FX6 I run ceramic rings and the coarse foam pads

Answer to this should be whatever suit's your needs. If you have big messy fish run sponges and a bio media like biohome, biomax, pond matrix. If you have a light stocked tank run the sponges and polishing pads

If there's one is car rUn some filter pads, lots of Oscars avoid the fine pads and use course foam

I found that the polishing pad loaded up really quickly even with a moderately loaded tank.

I just added an FX6 to my ML C-530 & C220 on my 155gl (5ft x 2ft x 2ft) tank. In the new FX6, I put a lot of the Eheim Substrat Pro in each of the 3 baskets along with a course foam pad on top and a fine foam pad on bottom. The C-530 is chock full of the Substrat Pro also. Matrix in the C-220.

I'll let you know how it works out, but so far I'm very happy with the FX6. Great mechanical filtration to go along with the C-530's huge biological media capacity. Best of both worlds.

If you have oscars i would load up on bio media like matrix and limit the amount of pads u use for mechanical filteration.....it will clog up faster then u think and ull be cleaning it out very frequently if u add too much mechanical filtertaion not to mention your flow rate will be shot
