Does anyone here own a G3 or G6? I'd eventually like to upgrade my 16g to a G series filter, but I'd like to know more about them before I get one. Are there any bugs/issues I should know about these filters? Reliability, quality, etc...

HarleyK HarleyK I believe you brought up the filter in a thread a while back.
Sorry, but I don't think it was me. All my canisters are Eheim...

I was just talking to one of the owners of a local store about the G6 two days ago. He got it dirt cheap from his rep. He said when the filter gets full it goes to full bypass when the filter is dirty and said they are pleaded like small pool filters. He keep a hand full on hand and just swaps them as they get dirty. He said it was cool but he would never actually pay full or 1/2 the price for one. Also he mentioned to use a much smaller tank than they are rated for. Sorry I don't have first hand experience but since I just had the convo with a very experienced person in the hobby I though I would share what he told me. In a nut shell..... he says the are cool but wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I was looking at getting the G3 for my 16g. The tank has a low bioload so it shouldn't be too much load for the filter. The main reason I'm looking at it is for the ease of maintenance.

Sound like maintenance is really easy, just pop the filter out and pop another one in and you don't even have to turn off the unit. But I heard they clog fast, like every day or every other day.

I have a guppy, 4 baby platies, and 2 otos. The bioload usnt very high.

It's the pre-filter that clogs fast, but you have to buy it seperately. The filter comes with a brush to clean the mechanical cartridge, so it can be reused. That's also another selling point for me - I can reuse the media. That's $20 a month I save.

*I owned 2x Fluval G6, I used both for 100G tank.
*The problem is the Price tag, most folks don't want to pay the price for 1 G6 because they can buy 4x sun sun canisters :) and these Fluval are weak for tank that bigger than 125 Gallons, work perfectly for 75~115 Gallons (5 foots tank).
*So if you don't have issue with your pocket then yes I would recommend buying Fluval G series, easy maintain no mess and extremely quiet.
