LONG ISLAND
I have a 55 gallon African tank sitting atop a dresser right now. There's no way for me to put the filter under the tank so it must go in the corner, problem is that the hoses just aren't long enough. Has anyone had any luck going to the plumbing section of the home depot and making longer hoses yourself. I would like to get this running tonight so any fast info would be great. The depot closes at 10 and im always looking for any excuse to head over there lol. thanks

i have the same problem. hopefully someone has an answer for us.

Easiest/quickest solution is put something under the filter (chair, laundry basket, ect.) to lift it closer to the tank? Worry about the pluming later.

Im sure if home depot has the right size hoses then they will work fine, if they dont have them try a pool and spa supply store they should have something that would work..

I agree . :D Any DIY or Pond/ Aquarium shop should have some hose the right size which you should be able to choose the lenght you need .

Don't use regular vinyl tubing, it kinks far too easily. They have the right size stuff though.

Vinyl tubing is fine to use you just can't go over the rim. I use it for my Fx5 but I used PVC 90* fittings to go over the rim of the tank.

What filter do you have?

i have a eheim 2215 and a fluval 404 that both needed new hoses. i just took the quick connects from the eheim and the fluval part that links the filter to the tubes to the depot. as it turns out they had just what i needed. i beleive its 1/2 inch on the eheim and 7/8 on the fluval. just to be safe i really worked it on there and finished it up with a hose clamp...not to tight though as i have herd rumors of fluval plastic being quite brittle over time. total cost for 30 ft of hose and clamps, about $14.

i agree that using the vinyl hosing is fine and using pvc for the rim of the tank, actually the vinyl hose actally has less restriction on the water flow than the original ribbed hosing.

i think homedepot has to have the tubing. i bought my tubing from a lfs. it was made my tetra and i bought like 10 feet for like 10 buck or something.. but i rememeber HD having the tubing near my house
