Cost aside, which would be better for the bottom tray in my 405s: marineland filter pad doubled up or fluval prefilter. I already have enough prefilter for 1 405 and was wondering which would be better for mechanical filtration and flow rate. For bio both 405s have 2.5 boxes of bio max and for chemical they each have 250ml of purigen

I would go with the fluval prefilter. If you have both sets of sponges in your 405, you should already have really good mechamical filtration.

I have nothing but biomax rings in all baskets of my 405 and it works great for keeping the water great.

Either way, you should be good
