I have been using fluval for years. I got so attached to it that I would only use fluval. I have a fluval FX4 running and I have had it for 6 months and it’s honestly been one of the best filters I have ever used... until tonight. I did my usuall filter clean and did the same steps and same procedure I always do and when I plugged it back in, water went EVERYWHERE. I have carpeted floors and they were soaked. I used every towel I owned to clean it up and have 3 fans running. Then I read the instructions and everything I did was right and tried it again and it leaked worse this time. I have been so attached to fluval and now it may be my least favorite brand ( or I’m just pissed my floor is soaked). Just wanted to share and also let out my anger lol. Times like these make me want to stop keeping fish.

Call me a fool but I believe that one can’t form a true opinion until they’ve either been using it for years and have seen both the bad and the good or have seen both failures and successes within the item within a short time frame. With filters and whatnot it’s a bit harder to be able to form an opinion as you can only have so many at your disposal as money becomes a limiting factor.
Given the fact that you’ve used it for years and even went all fluval I’d say that you have formed a valid opinion of them by now.
I’m assuming you’ve used at least 6 different individual fluval filters by now? Let’s say this failed one is the 7th, that is a 6 out of 7 success rate. Not bad, not perfect but not bad.
Going off of the fact that you’ve had such successful in the past and it took years to find one failure do you intend to keep using fluval?

I know that feeling all too well and to be honest it can happen to any canister filters, normally its because one or more of the seals failing that causes the leak...

Thats why these days i try and make sure to have a lot of towels ready and my hand over the shut-off valve of my filter so if any seals fail i dont get flooded (again)...

I also resorted to making sure i have spare o-ring seals for my filters incase anything like this happens...

All i can say for now though is go grab your beverage of choice and take a 5min breather before deciding what to do next...

Sometimes all you need is to get away from the mess before coming back more level headed to fix the problem...

So...Where was it leaking from? It's not like it randomly decides "I'm just gonna teleport water all over the room!" :)

They're pretty foolproof, and they're not so highly stressed that just making sure everything is tight isn't good enough most of the time. So either something is broken, or you've done something really wrong, lost an o-ring or something?

Put a HOB filter on the tank for now. Going to check on what’s wrong today
