I got to question can you use any fly fishing rod to go saltwater fishing or does it have to be made exactly for saltwater and can you fly fish for sharks from the surf.

I've only been fly fishing for Tarpon, it looked to be a standard fly fishing rod we were using.

I doubt you'd be able to fly fish for sharks from shore, it's more for sight fishing, you'd have to be able to see them to get the fly in front of them.

Well it depends on your target. All fly rods are made generally the same and your SW reels will probably have a faster retrieve. Use a rod wt approriate for your game. I use an 8wt for everything from LMB in FW to spanish mack, specks, reds, and even small dorado in SW.

Take no offence but do you even kno whow to fly fish? It would be impossible to cast a wire leader needed for sharks with a fly rod. Of course you can get lucky and catch them every once in a while with out a leader (I have caught small ones on regular mono) but 9 times out of 10 they will cut you off.

i once saw a show about this guy who went flyfishing for baby blues and makos so yes it can be done

Sharks taken by fly
Inshore: Spinner, Blactip, Lemon, Bonethead
Offshore: Thresher, Mako
Use white streamer flies. There's a youtube video about fly for baby Bonnetheads and Lemons.
It says that since a Shark blinks right before striking, when it comes close, stop moving the fly. Have some heave tackle, even 2ft Bonnetheads bent this rod over and tested the drag.
