I went to visit a friend who left ND to pursue PA school (Physician Assistant). He and his wife live near the border close to a town called Post falls. Its a great little town. Mostly, I went there to fish. I've heard some great stories about the rivers up that way about the trout fishing. I'd never caught a trout that wasn't stocked in a pond, lake, or reservoir so this was my opportunity to chase the real deal.
We roughed it, basically. We camped out in a small 3x6 foot tent (I've seen fish tanks bigger than this tent) and it got down to about 35-36 degrees at night. We fished all day, moving from spot to spot up and down the river in the truck and camped at night. We fished for three days and camped two nights.
I also had the unfortunate opportunity to meet this guy. I'm not sure, but I think this is a brown recluse. Not something you want to share a bathroom with.
I cannot express the feeling of triumph i felt after catching some of these fish. I am new to fly fishing, and being able to catch cutthroat from these waters is really something awesome. I loved it, and I am hooked for sure.
Here are some cool pics of the areas we fished.
And some pics of the fish.
My buddies first Cutthroat.
And my first cutthroat.
Aaaaand there she goes. Butterfingers...
Lets try again.
It's beautiful out there.
Starting to get the hang of it.
Our secret fishing spots.
Last fish of our trip, and the biggest. 15.5 inches. Beauty.
If you ever get a chance to visit the area, it's beautiful. Away from the cities anyway. Definitely going back next year possibly for the spring run if I can.
