I just got a pet Frt about 3-4 years of age a week ago from a local pet store. He/she is in a 180gal tank with 2 (100gal) fluval filters, and is extremely active. I noticed that the white specs on the top of its shell came off earlier today and have been researching that its a fungal infection!?? I've read many different solutions for this problem but is there anyone with a similar situation that was able to cure their frt? I don't know the ph of the water but the temp is 81(deg)F, i have partial fine/ corse sand substrate, the water is not to clean at the moment but I've noticed them even while the water was extremely clean. If I do need to add marine salt to the water how much do I put in? I REALLY need some answers because I don't want my baby to die......

fungal infection is extremely dangerous to frts. Treat it quick or it might be a goner. salt and water changes.

Raise the temp to 84F and add marine salt. IF you decide to use meds, do not use anything with copper. Best bet is to treat with Maroxy. But, the salt and increased temp should do the trick. Once the treatment is completed, you can leave the heater at 84F or bring it down no lower than 82F. Keep the water slightly brackish (mine do best in a specific gravity of 1.003-1.005) and add aragonite to the substrate. These turts prefer hard alkaline water.
