I noticed that in the past week my fly river turtles under side has been turning a bit red. Something has to be irritating her under side, what could it be? I'm a bit worried about it. She is the only one in her tank and the substrate is about half bare bottom and the other half is crushed coral. Could this be causing it? I will try to get a pic tmr.
Any help now though on the matter would be great.
Thank-you.

My FRT underside turned red because I was not changing the water on a regular basis.

I guess I'm a bit slacking on that. I clean once every 2 weeks. I will change it to 2 times a week and see how it goes. I've been super busy the last 2 months, but that is no excuse. I will up the water changes and see how it goes.

Anyone else?

just keep up with your water changes..how big's the frt?..and what are the dimensions of the tank?..and what kind of filtration do you have?

It uusually means bad water and a drop in PH. It is always a warning sign in FRTs!

Okay thanks for the tips everyone.

* the coral is fine, almost like sand. I bought it to keep the ph up but I willl test the water when I get home as I have ph upper. I will also do a tank clean.

* FRT is a solid 6". She is in a 30g, a bit small but's it's only temp. This was the FRT I rescued last year that had the fluid in the lungs, shell rot, and non-functioning back legs, all of which are fixed now. I will move her next month.

* tank is filtered with aq 100 & fluval 204.
