just wondering if a Firemouth and a Jack Dempsey would be able to mate. or if anyone knows if this has happened. also when are the FM's sexual active. i know its a female but she is only about 1.5-2" long the JD is about 3in or so. so if anyone has any input that'd be great

if theres already a thread about this some one let me know please. i really want to get some info about this.
They're american cichlids, of course they're related. Firemouths become sexually mature at around 3-4". Dempseys around 3.5-5".
hey thanks everyone. i dont know whats going on but my dempsey is digging pits under my driftwood. so we shall see what happens. i will try and get a pic up to let everyone see and maybe you can tell me if it might be a spawning pit.
no the jack has never done that before. i had 2 firemouths and a jack together and one fm and the jd got along and ganged up on the other fm so i had to move him. so i dont know whats going on. i think it would be great to get a fm and jd mix but we will see.
I did not breed them myself, but I did raise some fry. I called them Fire Dempseys. They were GORGEOUS!!!!!!! Wonderful mix.
so santoury you are saying that this has happened. that is awesome that makes me happy that this could possibly work. what did they look like? jd colors with a red throat?
