I have a Fire Mouth that got a good beating about three months ago. It was only a few seconds. I introduced him to a male and 2 females:nilly: The females attacked!

I pulled him out and put him back where I had just pulled him out of. But he was real scared and hid all the time.

After a week, I decided to isolate him "just in case" I left him in for a month, he was 100%.

His colors have never been better. He never had any real damage, just shook up.

He has almost no "will" in him. He wafts in the current at times, floats to the surface, and has those tell tale "big eyes" that fish get before death. I don't want to move him anymore. Has anyone ever had a Fire Mouth do this?

What would you do. All tests are just fine...

not a firemouth, but I have had a few fish just give up. Don't know why, and it is super stressing for us as owners not to be able to do anything about it.

It was a 40 breeder. Just some gravel and a pot....

I had a nine inch female jag do that to me. When I first put her in my community tank, she was doing great, but she kept starting fights with the other fish and got a little roughed up, so I moved her out. When she was all better I put her back in the community tank, and she was so scared and wimpy that if any fish chased her, she would hide side up against the surface of the water, even though there were better hiding places in the tank and she was the bigger fish. After a day of this, she was shredded, but still alive, so it was back to the healing tank. It turns out she had spent so much time at the surface that she had gotten swim bladder disease and couldn't make it to the bottom for a few days! Needless to say, I wasn't going to dedicate a whole tank to a wussy jag, and I ended up giving her to a friend.

He is also getting a lot of surface air...The exact same situation as your jag..He is always hugged against the back, intake, surface, anything other than a "normal" spot. He is the biggest thing in the tank. He is with some sev's a choc and a few others...His female is protecting him...I added some Epsom's salt out of instinct...

hi bigspizz.
same thing happened to me too with a meeki.
he was attacked by a male and he lost a tiny piece of caudal fin.
from then on he stationed at top of the tank , motionless.
he still ate but he became the last one in the hierarchy.

if is alone in the 40g breeder I would put in it some dither fish (swordfish)
they might be helpful to encourage him.

He is in the community right now...They are not messing with him, and he has a girlfriend. Do you recommend putting him back in the 40 breeder?

absolutely not.

that means he reachieved his social life into the tank.

So just hope? Is that really all I can do? I am prepared to do whatever it takes to keep him alive. But There is nothing I can think of.
