Hiya!

In a 75, do you think i could have a group of Firemouths with my Carpintis?

Its well maintained, and if this was done, the FMs and Tex would be alone in the tank.

I know that Meeki are good in tight conditions, you can have a lot in a tank. So if the Texas is worth about 5-6 of the Firemouths in aggression and overall bioload and size, could i still have a half-dozen Firemouths in the tank?

I feel like i would need a few to disperse aggression. My Tex is pretty mean sometimes, but he has lived with fish his whole life, except for a few days here and there. So maybe?

Whadya think?

I wouldn't do it.Firemouths wouldn't stand a chance if the tex got aggressive.
Firemouths have very weak mouths and their jaws are easily dislocated or broken by other cichlids.Firemouths are all front when it comes to aggression. They just don't have the physical attributes to back it up.

Ok, that makes sense.

Would it be possible with a different type of smaller cichlid? I can only think of Cons, which i know would work because they have no common sense and stand up to anything if the want to.

Any mid-sized fish that i could have a few of with my Tex?

How about cutteri or spilurus, or maybe sajicas.
They may or may not be seen as a threat to your tex so it will be trial and error.
They do however stand a better chance than any thorichthys species would.

Ok.

I do quite like these fish, and they seem like they would do decent. I however dont have anywhere that sells them, so i would have to order online, which is money that i can spend. $8-9 per fish plus S/H is a bit much, conpared to $4-5 for an FM.

I will keep them in mind, if i find them i might make the purchase.

Rainbow Cichlid? Could that work? Or too peaceful?

This idea is a bit different than the oters...

Could a single male Severum or JD work? The JD could stand up to it, i think. But there would be fighting? And the Sev is a bit too peaceful isnt it.

Im not sure, ive not kept either of these fish before...

Strange.I find most cichlids indifferent to fish that don't pose a threat or demand a territory.
A lot of catfish will stand up for them selves.
Large livebeares are normally ignored by non predatory cichlids.

Actually, a Syno i had held his own until he was passed up in growth rate...

I will look into swordtails?

I also have an idea which im not sure about...

Red-Tail Barracuda? The freshwater one, obviously.

They get to 8-10" and arent able to eat the Tex, but would the Tex bully it? The Cuda would stay at the surface with the Tex near the bottom.

Reason i ask is cause one of the LFSs has a 7" one. Its cool.
