you use good ol styrofoam. ive seen ppl do this-they go to a craft store and get sheets of styrofoam and glue the sheets together (with an aquarium safe silicone). let that dry and take a turkey cutting knife (electric) or a regular knife and carve away..

im not sure what kind of concrete they use (research that part lol) then smear that all over it, let it dry and use concrete paint/stain.

i agree-the one in the pic is quite ugly and you can make a much better one for cheaper. search on this site and i know there are some examples..

theres several good threads in the DIY section.. use the search button

(dont get butthurt about being told to use the search button please... by all means if you want to try to scan through the 238723985 pages in the diy section have at it)

Dude that's hilarious! Not butthurt at all... I think the same thing every time I see another "play sand or pool filter sand and how do I clean it" post. Sorry to be "that guy"!

My question just wasn't clear enough. I actually did search for it with little luck. The foam is not styrofoam or expanding foam etc... While I was at the LFS, I popped open the box to check this background and it feels like the sponge on a sponge filter to the touch and wanted to know what if anyone knows specifically what it's called and have ever used it in thier tanks?

I plan on heading to Michaels tomorrow to see if they have anything similar to the product.
