I am trying to come up with a way to make a nicer divider instead of the old eggcrate. Has any one tried to make a divider out of the foam & concrete background. I was thinking I could cut the foam to fit add additional foam pieces to make caves, and then cut holes into the divider for water flow and for my female fish to swim through.

Has any one tried this, or any other nice divider ideas?

Well foam floats or atleast I believe it does. Are you thinking of adding weight to it so it doesnt? Ive used chicken wire before and that worked out pretty good. Just make sure there arnt any sharp edges.

yes go too ur nearest convinience store n ask for the plastic bresd trays that they bring the bread in its made of sum strong plastic, thats wut i did to separate my tank mates from eachother n it works, let me know wut u think,n how it wrks for you...

I agree with Fons. An open-cell or random-woven filter material, such as Poret, is a better choice than closed-cell insulating foam, which seems to be what you are talking about. Insulation foam does not allow flow-through, so you will need separate filtration, aeration, heating, etc. for each side of the tank and might as well just have two smaller tanks.

Below is an example of a divider I made using random-woven pond filter material attached with zip ties to a frame made of 1/2" PVC pipe. This design is overbuilt due to the destructive tank inhabitants (two juvenile common snapping turtles). A more attractive and discreet version could be made with green or black foam, friction-fitted or held in with strips of glass siliconed to the tank sides.

I don't have any pics of mine but i made a pvc frame like the above picture and then went to Lowes and grabbed some plastic netting and wrapped the frame with that, and secured it with zip ties.. It works great and is soft enough my rays don't get messed up by sharp corners.. Plus teh netting is black so it kinda blends in with my blacked out tank..
