I just recently setup a 29 gallon tank with 1 longear sunfish. The filter that I have is a Tetra Internal Whisper Power Filter 10-30 gallon from walmart. What would cause this foam? I do not have any substrate either in the tank. It looks like the fishes waste has settled on the bottom and the filter is not picking it up. What should I do? Would a water change fix this foam? How much of a water change?
Thanks

If it is not a clear white foam (rather a dirty or brown or other colored foam) it is from high waste content. That waste is dissolved, so it's not a result of the filter not picking it up. You need more water changes in that case. Check your nitrates.

A couple of questions?

recently? how recent?
Stocking level?

Tetra internal filters?? If budget is tight install an additional hydor sponge filter..

I'd upgrade to a larger HOB if possible.......Aquaclear 70 would be my choice for a 30 bare bottom

Foam as mentioned above is usually an indicator of high dissolved waste, proteins, etc......GL:popcorn:

I just did a 50% water change. The foam is white. I have had the tank up about 10 days. I am considering getting an aquaclear 70 filter. Do I need one of those filters that go on the bottom of the tank also?
