i have a small chip in my 150s bottom panel. the chip is about as round as a bb and maybe 1/16" into the bottom glass that is 1/2" thick.no visible cracks. its about 6" in from the back and 10" from the side. im going to put a 10" patch panel of glass over it. i would like to put foam under the bottom panel so that the weight of the tank sits on the foam and not the frame to even out the load. i also want to do this because the tank is 1/8" wider and longer than the stand i have but i cant buy a new stand. is the foam under the glass a good idea?

won't your tank crack? since there's a piece of glass under the base. there's going to be pressure from the place where the patch is placed.

the patch will be inside the tank and comlpetely unseen as it will be covered with gravel.:)

I would not evan sweat that little ding like u said no cracks right i would just check on it every once in a while to see if it starts to spyder web then u got trouble i don't think the glass patch or foam will really do anything to help.

yeah but the foam is also to keep the tank on the stand as i dont want the tank frame hanging over the stand, even if its only 1/16" each side and a piece of glass is only 5$, just piece of mind for myself.

Not a good idea. The tank needs to be supported on all 4 edges. If the tank is too big for the stand, you stand a high risk of the seams separating. Instead of getting a new stand, could you get a piece of plywood cut to the dimensions of the tank, place it on the stand, and then put the foam on it? This would then make sure that all 4 edges are properly supported.

if the foam was under the frame(the only way to have it under all four edges), this would completely undermine my reason for having foam under the glass(also to decrease chances of crack forming). if the tank sat directely on the stand it would be supported on all four corners, it would just overhang a tiny bit because the frame is thicker than the tanks frame that is currently on there.
