foam under tank

Hi there,

I'm setting up a 25 gallon tank on an old dresser of mine. I fear that while the dresser will most definately hold the weight of the tank, it might not be perfectly flat.

My question, what type/size foam should I use between the tank and the stand?

I would be careful.

a 10 or even a 15 gallon might be okay, but 25 gallons is 250 pounds of static weight.

thats a lot for the top of a dresser that was not designed for that purpose.

just be safe!

you might want to consider getting a proper stand instead.

To answer your question, 3/4" pink or blue Styrofoam from HD or Lowes.

thanks for the info guys. I ended up getting the 1/2" pink styrofoam.

As far as the dresser goes, I can't see why it wouldn't hold the weight. It's solid, and has the right kind of bracing. Hopefully this doesn't come back to haunt me someday ;(
