So out of nowhere my tank water has turned foggy. I thought at first I may have changed too much water on my last water change. This wasnt the case. All of my levels are fine. Less than 5 ppm nitrates and 0 ppm nitrites and ammonia. p.h. is at 7.5. The fogginess didnt begin until a couple days after my water change. Never happened before.

I am running a cascade canister filter by Penn Plax and a DIY wet/dry filter. Both filters are established and have been cleaned religiously once a month.

Does anyone know what the root of the problem is? I can take pics if need be, but all of the lights are off in the house right now. Thank you in advance. Its making my wife upset. She thinks the tank is "dirty"

how do you "clean" your filters? do you use tank water or tap?

I always use a bucket of tank water. By cleaning them, I mean just getting the detritus off the media sponges and I change out the filter floss in the wet/dry. I never touch the scrubbies in the sump or bioballs in the canister.

....lol....maybe I should have stated that in my original post. Yes. Im not a new aquarist. Ive just never dealt with anything of this nature before.

It doesnt seem to me to be an algal bloom. It seems to be actually a larger particulate floating in the water. Almost like a load of detritus shot out of the pump. Its really strange. With a prefilter on the overflow and a sponge on the pump, I just cant see anything getting through that large.
