I was wondering what if you soak pellets in food coloring? Would it improve the fishes color? I have a firemouth and it would be a cool experiment

The beta carotene (not sure on spelling) that is present in carrots helps increase orange colour. even in humans. Contrary to popular belief there is higher amounts of beta carotene in cucumber than in Carrots.

Shrimp are also know to increase the colour of fish, Flamingos are said to only be pink because of their exclusive diet on shrimps. unfortunately all the food colouring will do is recolour the faeces of the fish and not the actual fish itself.

Food coloring is water soluble, so all you'll end up with is colored water. Besides, the chemical composition of food coloring is mostly derived from coal tar and many color pigments have been connected to asthma, allergies, skin rashes, carcinogens, anxiety, depression, itching, migraines, weakness, and ADHD in people (to name a few), so I don't imagine that they will do your fish much good - in fact just the opposite.
