hey everyone just wanted some options on what to feed my new fish i picked him up yesterday at my lfs and hes huge about 9in right now!! At the moment im feeding him cichlid gold about 10 pellets a day the large ones and he still acts hungry. Just wanted to know what oter options i can go with. Ive looked at several brands to make his nuchal bigger a.k.a(KOK) but it all says mostly for flowerhorns. Is this still ok? my concern is he is orange and all the foods say it will bring out the red (in flowerhorns) any advice?

Nuchal hump size is hereditary plus lots of food(it's mostly fat). I feed mine earthworms, crickets, and chunks of frozen/thawed Tilapia; along with the pellets. If you go with trying to force growth you're going to have to pay closer attention to water quality(ie, more frequent changes).

Feed him unitll he stops, I usually sit there for a min or 2 just enough for him to get his fill.
I feed mine Hikari gold, Omega one, & NLS for pellets.
I found the NLS made my big guy quite red.
You can see my gallery for the transformation.

Was it really necessary to make 4 threads of the same subject?
:grinno:

Just dump in a lot of good quality pellets.. but watch the water quality.

As for the nuchal hump, my Amphilophus Amarillo (it's not a Midas but oh well) had a huge hump in my 190 gallon with tankmates. Then he went on killing some fish so for a while I had put him in a 75, nuchal hump was a lot smaller all of a sudden.
Then I put him back in my 190 and it got huge again. It could have gotten smaller because of the stress of putting him in another tank, but it is still weird.

earthworm! I stand by EARTHWORMS! They improve color, they help them grow, and I somewhat natural to what the eat in the wild. Plus if you gut load them with spirulina, then they can also aid in the extra nutritional requirements of the fish. Oh ya, there over 70% protein.
