hey everyone just wanted some options on what to feed my new fish i picked him up yesterday at my lfs and hes huge about 9in right now!! At the moment im feeding him cichlid gold about 10 pellets a day the large ones and he still acts hungry. Just wanted to know what oter options i can go with. Ive looked at several brands to make his nuchal bigger a.k.a(KOK) but it all says mostly for flowerhorns. Is this still ok? my concern is he is orange and all the foods say it will bring out the red (in flowerhorns) any advice?

Dont use any of the flowerhorn foods, some use hormones and what not to pump up the nuchal hump. try some shrimp, nls pellets, massivore.the nuchal humps a dominance thing and genetics plays a factor.

There are differences between the Nuchal Humps of regular cichlids and the Koks of Flowerhorns. Flowerhorns develop Koks through selective breeding. The size of most cichlid Nuchal Humps are determined by their species. Some species just don't grow large Nuchal Humps while some do. Feeding a cichlid FH food and expecting it to develop FH characteristics isn't going to happen. Genetics, diet, hierarchy among tankmates, and temp of tank can and will effect the size of a cichlid's Nuchal Hump. The same things can also determine the size of a FH's Kok. Feed your Midas X Red Devil a good pellet as a staple (Hikari, NLS, etc..) and it will be fine. Don't feed it everytime that it begs. They all do that, including mine. Feeding it too much will only waste your money, harm the fish, and foul your tank water. A fish can only digest so much.
