I live in an area with lots of lakes and rivers which contain an abundance of minnows and brine/myosis shrimp. Would there be any problems with collecting and using as food. Does anyone else do this. I live in Alberta Canada

I was thinking come spring to use earthworms that i would just pick up off the ground when it rains.... but im worried about chemicals and stuff

the local fish and shrimps i question..... the earthworms turkeyboy are not a good idea.... look at it this way.... is your stingray worth the risk of parasites or death from chemicals cause you wanted to save a few bucks.......

The best palce to find natrual food for your rays must be small ponds with no fish.. No fish = no fish parasites..

I have been thinking of collecting my own feeder fish and deep freezing them for a few weeks to kill any parasites. After all the frozen smelt and silversides many people use for food are wild caught fish that simply have been frozen.

kinda thinking the same thing. Not trying to save money just thought there would be less chance of diseases than feeders from pet shops. The lakes around here like mike said are all very clean fed from mountain runoff. Do you think you would need to freeze first?

just use your best judgement.... it can be done... I would always feed my rays crayfish from the stream by my parents house in the mountains... Everything was fine...
