hey all..... someone once told me if you keep feeder goldfish in the tank with the cichlids you keep the picking on eachother and fighting to a minimum cause there to busy going after the goldfish... any opinions, or other ways to keep there agression down

they are more as dithers in that aspect the feeders... wat fish do you have and wat size tank?

NEVER feed feeder fish, feeders arent treated for disease or parasite so they are bound to give your fish some sort of issues.

i have always found as long as my fish are well fed they dont kill eachother, i use pellets.

well its basically just my Texas.. hes about 5 inches and he picks on my Jupari whos 5 inches as well..... it used to be the other way around by now the texas is getting meaner in my opinion.. i feed them hikari pellets and there tank is very nicely planted..... wiTH Clay pots and little caves to hide in..

if u want to use feeders get a 20 gallon quarantine tank. or larger if u have to feed numerous monsters. keep them in the tank for at least a week and and put in some tank salt they should be fine. as for agressiveness it depends on the fish. i had 8 rbp that would have 50 feeder comets in their tank and would kill a cichilid for $#!+& and giggles. a yellow lab that was at least twice their size had his jaw removed by them. for some reason they killed for spite.

well also with any fish just 2 fish in a tank (specially with any cichlids) can get ugly and no it is not tru if u keep ur fish well fed they wont kill out of spite. u should keep 3 or more cichlids together or just 1 because there will always be a bigger more dominate fish so just to depress the aggresion throw another fish in the tank and everything should be fine. you could get like 3 firemouths to diffuse aggresion it worked in my tank

i add big feeders if i need to get the aggression down if your worried about "dodgy" goldfish from the lfs, then breed your own, i just buy mine atm because the feeders from my area are good, it seems ppl in the US have crap feeders

I properly house my fish to keep aggression down... seems to work great for me...

Hi- I dont have cichilids, but I tried to do the exact same thing with my aggressive goldfish. I call them my "wolf pack" because they regularly pick an omega and pester it until he dies. So I decided to get 6 rosy minnows to see if they would eat them instead of eachother. No such luck. They completly ignored the minnows until they got too big to eat, and now they treat them like pets and still pick on eachother! I still can't believe that my pets have pets. I guess it will just depend on the motivation of the agression rather than anything else. Best of luck!
