I'm not sure what forum to put this under so mod if need be moved thanks in advance.....

So to my question, when feeding live food's such as worms or any other live food how do you prepare it to combat against carrying parasite or any other problems that it can possibly introduce to your tank....any info will be greatly appreciated as no one wants to purposely introduce bad things to their pet...Thanks for all info

nothing.... nobody preps or does a preventative????

I don't feed as much live, but I believe the best way is to breed your own. I know freezing some foods will kill off parasites, but it isn't a guarantee. but if you make your own and care for it, you have much more control about the quality and disease

You'll find out that most fish keepers in general quarantine live food before giving them to their fish. Others even go to the extent of breeding their own feeders (like me), while others just simply avoid feeding live food.

Now quarantine and prep may be different for each type of live food. For example, feeder fish require about a month in a quarantine tank to be observed and treated for parasites and gut loaded with good pellets. Earthworms, on the other hand, are usually just dug up and rinsed then given directly to the fish, just make sure the soil you got the worm from is safe and clean of chemicals.

Breeding your own live feeders imo is the best way to avoid illness and parasites. It may be hard at first but is actually relatively easy. If you want feeder fish, mollys and other live bearers in a 20 gal would be a fairly easy choice. Others say a pair of convicts is the easiest cause they breed like crazy and you would have more feeders than you could handle in just a couple of months. If you want to go with worms, having an earthworm farm would also be a good choice. Just research on how to breed them.

Hope I helped!
