just received new ray 3 weeks ago doing great from day one. yesterday refused her food. water quality is ideal nothing obvious. hopefully this is no biggy, but i have not had a ray refuse food in a long time some might say somewhat normal and nothing to worry about but i believe this is not normal and may be something we don't see such as internal bacterial problem or maybe parasite's. i know there can be several causes to create this kind of problem. i guess i am looking to be refreshed on this situation .a few years ago i had a ray that ate well then refused to eat she went on strike for a little over two weeks one day she eats again like she never stopped eating then before you know it she died no signs of nothing
a penny for your thoughts

cb or wild?

this used to happen to me when i let my nitrates get to high...

whts the tank size, tankmates, etc?

This happens to me with new wc rays quite often. I'm not sure on the exact amount it needs at first so I feed it what it eats. It's starved from the journey and eats more than it needs to. One day it decidess i's had enough and doesn't eat for me the next feeding. Always eats again the feeding after that but I reduce the amount until it eays everytime I feed it.

wc ray used jungle quick dip strip reads 0 on nitrate. Ray is about 5 1/2" no tank mates in a 125 gal. have not tried any food today yet will be doing maintenance tonight so i will attempt to feed tonight. ray seems to show normal activity it may be nothing i just no there are people that have gone through this eating to not eating thing and in my experience it has not been good. will see later tonight what she does.

get a real test kit IMO. u should always have some sort of nitrate reading, otherwise ur doing way to many waterchanges.

if this happens to me, i salt...

john just black out the tank for a few days....

ray ate last night but about half what it normally eats. threw in a choped night crawler this morning didn't eat whole thing. Trev i knew you would say something about the reading so what is a real test kit ? lights are out Nic didn't turn them on yesterday.she probable has a little inconsistency in her eating like skynoch has experienced with his new rays.
