Which one would be better a 6 foot cylinder with 18 inch height or 83x46x18.....I believe the 6 foot cylinder has a better base area

Yes, a bit more area (253 in. square) available in the cylinder. Not corners either. Is it smooth all the way around or shaped more like the Rubbermaid troughs?

18" will be tough for rays either way, I never thought I would say that for 24" but even that is getting small for the females. Depending of course what species you want to keep. The appeal of a cylinder is there for sure, but I think you may run into issues with plumbing, stands, possibly circulation, I would almost think that going with a standard would be better as no surprises.

I agree with this. Height is important as well as footprint, especially if you want to breed

I've heard mixed reviews on breeding height. ...but it would definitely be hard for males to flip huge females in that depth .....as far as flow goes I disagree ....in a cylinder you can position returns and flow in a circular motion either causing the debris to be collected in the middle or I'd the flow is high enough it should all be picked up....for plumbing a uniseal bulkhead would work .....and yes it is smooth all around not like the 300 gallon rubermaid

With weight on the second floor and size being an issue both in the basement and on the second floor.....my only option might be to use an intex pool or build a 8x4x2 with a pond liner.....the way the pond liner folds in the corners scares me.....if the rays bite thru it

why pond liner? there are other ways to seal a plywood.

I only mentioned flow because they are river stingrays, I am unsure how happy they would feel with flow going circular, but I am sure I am thinking too much into it and I highly doubt it would matter. Uniseals are tricky, and once they get bigger when glass surfing I'm not sure if they could jostle them out of position or not. Also consider thickness and what its made of.

250-300 gallons over 30-35 Sq feet (over 6-8 floor joists) and over 3 floor supports that handle 10000 lbs each......would be fine
