I came across this little gem the other day at one of my suppliers. It came in as an unidentified eel and I just wanted to share it with you guys. I don't have a deep knowledge of eels so any info you guys have on this animal would be nice. It took me a little while to figure out what it is but I still don't know anything about it. So I would like to see if anybody knows what it is right off the bat.

I have no clue, but man that thing is amazing!

Thats the problem I don't really know anything about it. I have know idea how to price it since I can not find anyone selling one. Its about 8" and its called a yellow mouth moray or starry moray. Gymnothorax nudivomer. I am open to offers but I am not going to price it till I figure out its fair market value. So for now its just a display animal for my shop.

Yup, definitely looks to be a Gymnothorax nudivomer. They can get as big as 70". They aren't cheap at all...heres a website that sells them for $500 (http://www.sealifedirect.com/yellow-mouth-moray.html) .....That is the only website I could find that sells them

It's too bad that they don't retain that coloration as adults; a full-size adult specimen with those colors would be sick!

Agreed. Wow, they get big!

From looking at pictures it seems the coloration varies from region to region as babies to adults and as far as what their worth its so hard to say because only one place even claims to be able to get them. Like I said before I am not even sure I am going to put it up for sale because I know nothing really about it and I would just assume to hold on to it till a true collector of rare eels shows some interest. Plus if it keeps those colors even at a fairly large size this will make an awesome display eel for my store.
