I did say I'd need a tame a gorilla to carry one that like - I don't think that guy could get through a day's shooting at any of my favourite zoos :-D

Dunno. Longest focal range that I've ever used for portraits was at 600mm.

Ed, you can probably take pictures of the zoo from your house with that lens. I read that someone used a 2x TC on that lens (Canon version) to take a picture of the late Princess Diana. She was on an island and it was off limits so they used that combo to take a picture of her, haha.
