Yes, he can be house with other fish. I have kept tetras, convicts, and jewel cichlids with him. Yes, you can do regular tank maintenance without wearing rubber gloves, just like you would for any other fish. He begs for pellets at the surface when he's hungry. Sometimes he goes a day or two without asking for food and then there are spurts where it is every day.
