a have lot of cute cichlids i used to be a crazy about african cichlids but recently i am thinking of getting rid of them and replace tank with other types of fish... i dont know exactly what has changed. ive seen a post before i cant remember if it is this website about a guy that has lost interest in his fish too. he says that he has outgrown it and that its like keeping an ant colony. never understood him though until recently. anyone here feels the same or has had the same experience?

I had 8 affican tanks when i got into the hobby now I dont have one i became more interested in the sa/ca cichlids and all kinds of oddballs more or less done with Africans besides my Calvus and some remaining Venustus fry Im still growing out
Soon after i quit my job at the lfs my interest in the hobby slowed as of now I still enjoy my fish but Im no longer as involved in fish or the fish world i just recently started posting on MKF again

I got bored of the typical africans cuz they all seemed to have the same shape/size/personality. I keep fronts and comps as my only africans now and I am much more fond of them. Maybe thin out your tank and look for some different looking/acting africans that are compatible?

Mix it up!!!!

Change the decor, stock, substrate, maybe lighting and enjoy.

I can in all honestly say that I will never be without an African tank of some sort in my home or office.

i was thinking the same thing lately, i was thinking about getting rid of them but then they started breeding, i added some new fish blah blah blah.. reinterested!!

We're keeping the same Africans. I started out with Africans but now only have 1 tank out of 8 thats African and i just set that tank up no more than 8 months ago. I really love the CA/SA cichlids much more and i actually have times where i think about getting rid of the Fronts and Calvus but they cost me an arm and leg especially the Fronts, so I'll keep them. i have no interest in the malawians at all.

CA/SA is where its at right now! But I still like africans. Try some shell dwellers (neolamprologus multifaciatus). They were more interesting than my fronts, peacocks, calvus, and yellow labs. My brother has kyoga flamebacks (xystichromis) that breed. Im currently keeping em for him. I have 2 babies that I found recently. I read they are somewhat endangered.

You gotta switch it up!! Im stuck on sa cichlids now-trying to grow these temensis to full size.

i can't relate, but i did start off with all types of mbuna, and now i concentrate on haps. maybe you could try a different species of african cichlid to see if they spark a intrest.
