I went to a LFS in Pomona that I haven't been to in a while, and while wandering up and down the aisles, I saw a whole tank of Uaru amphiacanthoides. I asked the owner about them, and he said he had raised them since they were very small, and no one wanted to buy them. He said all his customers called them "ugly discus". I believe he was asking $25 for the uarus, and there were some pretty good sized ones in the tank.
He also said he had Black Jack Dempseys...how are these different from regular jds?
