for those who dont like pitbulls !!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I still don't like pitbulls. Not because they are mean, but I just don't like their looks. German Shepards are where its at, but even they attack people. That video just shows a bunch of dog attacks and a few nice pitbulls. That's nothing anyone with a brain doesn't know.

My uncle's english bulldog has done more harm with its looks than 95% of pitbulls. It's so incredibly ugly that it hurts to look at it. I think I have suffered permanent eye damage. I don't have a picture, because I'm kinda afraid the image will harm my camera.

Its a shame that the media and bad dog owners have given them a bad name...

Hello; The responses have been much as expected. Some how it is not the dog that is doing the attacking, it is the owners fault.

The great dane that attacked a child was able to get out of a fenced yard because the fence was damaged during one of the recent severe storms. The owner had made arrangments to get the fence fixed but had not taken any further precautions such as putting the dog on a stout chain. The owner was not acting in a responsible manner, but the dog did the attack.

Of all the dog owners I have known, only a very few take the time to train their dogs or have them trained. Nor do most dog owners keep them in a secure manner. They simply allow the dogs to run the neighborhoods. Several have said to me that they cannot stand the thought of have their dog penned up or chained. Some how it is OK, by their thinking, to let their dogs use everyone elses yard as a bathroom and tear up stuff in addition to the attacks on people and other pets. These owners are often sorry when their dog bites someone, but in some cases do not take any additional preccautions after the fact. Some owners have been known to try to place the blame for an attack on the person or other pet being attacked, even thou it is clearly their responibility to keep their pet under control.

We are indeed fortunate that most dogs are not aggressive by their nature. However it is clear from the number of reported attacks that large dogs do attack people quite often. Even if it is only a small percentage of the total dog population, it is too many.

It seems clear that some folks cannot see the potential danger from a large animal with sharp teeth. You will be suprised when your beloved pet bites someone. You will say something like it had never done anything like that before. I have known dog owners who got away with a few incidents because the early attacks were not too serious or a friend decided not to make a big deal out of it, only later to have the same animal do some real damage. You will search for ways to shift the blame away from your pet and yourself. May I suggest that you do a search for dog attacks and if possible take a good look at the ones with pictures. Perhaps when at the vet, ask for comments from the folks who deal with these attacks. Even if somehow the majority of attacks can be laid on the irresponsibility of owners, the dogs are still doing the attacks and the owners will not suddenly become responsible.

Dog owners should keep their dogs secure on their property in some fashion so that the animal cannot roam freely. When away from home the animal should be secure at all times in some manner. I was at a car show in Townsend TN recently. Several people had dogs with them, they were all on leads and some of the larger dogs had muzzels in place. I was able to relax around these dogs that were strange to me.

All that being said, let me again remind those that want a warm and fuzzy response to your pets, folks like myself are suspicious of any strange dog and are preparred to take what action is felt needed to protect ourselves, our family and our friends. Up to and including killing any animal that appears to present a threat. Do everyone a favor and make it so folks like me do not have any thing to be concerned about and keep you dogs under strict control.

Great dogs. Too bad so many of them are put down and shelters are full of them thanks to irresponsibility.

it is the owners fault.

THIS!!....the only dog i have ever been bit buy was a Puggle...in my opinion one of the ugliest mutts out there.

It made no indication it was going to bite..i was by my car and the owners were walking it by and it turned and took a freaking chunk out of my leg....the dog had bit 3 other people....the owners looked horrified when they asked me what they should do with the dog..if they should put it down (they did)...and i simply told them its not the dogs fault it is not properly trained...they were not happy with me .............but it was there dog who bit me so ....THERE fault..not the dogs.

Pitbulls are the only breed that can and has passed the bite test 90% of the time. These dogs and many others have to be taught to be mean. The only dogs that I have ever been bitten by are little dogs. Designer dogs if you will. This issue is crazy. People watch too much tv, exploited tv at that. The media is to blame for so many good dogs going to death because of bad press. The pits that are taught to fight only continue to due so because of extreme encouragement by the owner. They dont know any better and are only subject to their loyalty to their owners. A bully breed will die try to please is owner. Period. Thats the type of dog I know and love.

This statement seems to imply that news reports of maulings somehow give biting dogs unjustified criticism. Perhaps that is not what you meant to say. I cannot say that I know of a dog being put to death that was not known to have attacked and bitten or at least that it was reasonably known that it has bitten or attacked. As far as I know, good dogs that do not bite are not killed.

There are a few circumstances where a dog attack can be justified. An intruder in a home, someone attacking a person or perhaps police/ military dogs are examples that come to mind. Perhaps there are others.

I gave two recent, and local to me, incidents of dog maulings on a grandmother and a child resulting in them being put into a hospital. I have not heard that either died but the attacks were reported as severe. I personally feel that the owners of these dogs should put them down even if some how the law dosen't rerquire it. How about some consideration for the victims. Can you at all imagine how the mauled child (and other children) in the neighborhood of that great dane are going feel if the dog is still around.
