The only thing pit bulls are guilty of is the slobber, which a lot of breeds are guilty of.

I think small dogs are more dangerous, as they usually have a Napoleon complex. I've only met 3 chihuahuas that aren't overly defensive over their owner, or just have a bad attitude.

I'm a boxer person myself. Absolutely love my friend's boxer.

My belief hasn't changed.. I believe that it's not the dog but the people who own and train the dog who are at fault. In my experience a dalmation and a dobe will turn on you 10x faster than a pit.

i see your point but bites from small dogs aren't going to end your life (aside from an infection that you could get from a big dog too).....it's like saying i fear a siemise because i'm more likely to get mauled by them then a mountain lion...

ps, i start house sitting a pit bull today

Hello; To outtacontrol, In many states when a person take over the care and feeding of a dog they also, by law, become responsible (liable) for the actions of that dog while it is under your control. You are a very good friend to take on such a responsibility.

A lady that I know in Ohio took in a stray because she felt sorry for it. It was a large dog. Her next door neighbor was visiting in the yard and while the two were chatting the dog severly bit the neighbors arm and hand. The bite tore ligaments and tendons requireing a trip to the emergency room and will require additional surgeries. Guess who is responsible for the damages and expenses. She hopes that her homeowners insurance will cover it, but the outcome is not yet known. She tried to argue that it was not her dog and just a stray, but she had fed and housed it for a few days.

^ ouch! yeah, this dog is sweet though. i've never seen it take a defensive stance but i'm aware i'm responsible

Well, mountain lions are wild animals. That includes cougars too.....
I've seen some pretty evil and capable house cats before, the most notable being named Lucifer. Flayed my dad's arm open with the front claws. But yeah, when the cat can roar and hasn't eaten in a while, game over.

I look after a friend's boxer when they're gone. I often leave with bruises, but it's because he likes wrestling with me and he's much stronger than I am. I'm the only person he gets excited to see. I've cared for doberman and pit bulls before, never felt in danger around them at all. I feel more on edge with my friend's rough collie, because every time I go over there she manages to sit on my chest and not move for quite a long time.

Pit bulls have the potential to cause serious harm. They're wired differently from other breeds and they have jaw strength that exceeds that of most breeds by leaps and bounds. I have nothing against the breed, but I have no desire to ever own a pit.

Hello; Here is another thought. This is a monster fish forum and many members keep very aggressive fish such as some of the cichlids. Most of these fish are aggressive no matter how they are raised, with or without good owners. I know this is a flawed analogy in that fish and dogs are different sorts of animals. We all likely know of fish species that are no good for a community tank, no matter how much we as fish owners happen to like them.
Dogs were deliberately bred to have different characteristics, both physically and in temperament. This selective breeding was done with the intent to create differences in the breeds of dogs. Along with the desired traits, some breeds have problem issues that are widely known to be common with that breed. The breeds are different and individual animals have differences within the breeds.
Some folks keep trying to imply that all dogs are the same and if only the owners would treat and/or train them properly, all will be well. Things would be better for sure, but it is my contention that some breeds are prone to be more aggressive and that individuals of most any breed can be aggressive. Big dogs have big bites and can do serious damage. I seriously doubt that very many owners are going to do the right thing at any rate.
The issue is not the good dogs that do not bite or attack. They are not the ones that cause problems. Some dogs are vicious either by nature or by the way they were treated. To the person being attacked, I doubt if the distinction will make much difference.

For every function of a Pitbull there are other breeds that fill that function better, except perhaps for fighting.

How much do you really know about dogs? Did you know that the Rotti and German Sheppard have much stronger bites than a pit?

It's all about owners. Not the breed. Plain and simple. If you don't agree, you shouldn't have a dog. Period.
