I thought I would make a thread for the success stories,be them few and far between.I am not looking for the unsuccessful horror stories,so please don't post on that side of this already one sided battle..I believe there is enough of that on MFK and on the net itself. While success is few and far between,I believe if no one sees any success stories with a Jardini housed with tank mates(be it any kind)less people will try to achieve it.Because of this ,I believe we will see even less cases of when it has been achieved.
My personal take on the Jardini is that it needs to be with robust fish that won't go nuts at the Jar when the Jar enters its personal space(territory)This is a must as the Jardini will utilize the whole tank, often including lower levels.I believe the Jardini will be more tolerant if it does not have to compete for food and is kept adequately fed.For this reason,I feed the cichlids with Hikari gold, some veggie matter ,earthworms and some fine chopped prawns(market shrimp)My Jar is not so interested in this food.I feed the Jar whole peeled prawns, large meal worms and fish fillets. These are always fed from the top water level.I always feed the cichlids first and then the Jar about 15 minutes later.By using this process I have found there to be no aggression between the Jar and cichlids while feeding. The rest of the time the Jar is very easy going..
I also find having a fair bit of timber(cover)in the tank has somewhat helped keep the Jardini more mellow. So far it has worked for me(touch wood,it continues)They will be going into a larger tank later so I hope this will also be in my favor.I would like to hear any other successful stories,be there more out there.By successful,I mean 12" Jardinis on wards and please explain why they think it is working.
I have posted some vids I have found to have a look at for those interested.
